Criterion Capital has recently bought the building and is proposing to transform it into a new zedwell hotel, featuring a range of bedrooms, including its innovative cocoon and capsule rooms, which have proved very popular in other locations. These rooms will be unique in York.
The building already has planning permission to convert the upper floors into a hotel, and Criterion Capital is now seeking to slightly amend the layout and façade. All feedback about these exciting plans is welcome and you can let us know what you think HERE.
These plans will give this listed building a sustainable new future, bring a new hotel concept to York and represent a major investment as part of the wider regeneration of Coney Street.
This heritage-led approach will retain key features of the building and we believe will be the first hotel capsules in the UK, outside of London.
The zedwell & More programme actively encourages guests to spend time in local restaurant, cafes, and other cultural venues through partnership agreements which provide for guest needs deliberately not accommodated on site. This will help other businesses in the city centre and across York.
